Contact your insurance company before you install your system to let them know about the addition to your property. You should be sure to verify that solar system replacement costs don’t exceed your current policy coverage limits in the event of damage. Adding solar should not increase your insurance premiums. If it does, you may want to find an insurer that provides discounts to customers who “go green”. The NREL report does note that ground-based solar systems may not be covered and may require additional insurance.
